Presenting Maurice at the Theopolitics Workshop

In December I presented a paper titled ‘F. D. Maurice and the Theopolitics of Fellowship’ at the Political Theology and Theocracy: Walking the Fine Line Between the Profane and the Messianic workshop. The paper explored Maurice’s alternative vision of political theology, focusing on continuity, and the social imagination of mid-Victorian Christianity, rather than the more familiar twentieth-century emphasis on crisis, rupture, and exception.

This was my second conference paper, and I won’t lie - it was a little daunting being the only student presenting. That said, the atmosphere was incredibly generous. Everyone was engaged, and genuinely kind, and the discussion that followed made the experience both affirming and intellectually exciting. It was a real pleasure to share work on Maurice in such a supportive space and to see his ideas taken seriously within contemporary conversations in political theology.
